Max Protein Review (Universal)

by

I’m a bit of a Universal fan. They are a phenomenal company in the world of sports nutrition supplements, and have produced best in their class products for bodybuilders. It has always been worth spending money on Universal. So let’s see if this product lives up to their usual standard.

I have used Ultra Whey Pro, Animal Pak, M-Stak, Nitro and Animal Rage before. And more recently Max Protein (which was previously called Animal Max Protein). I used 2 packs of the product before writing this review and can say that the results were awesome.

Profile

The ingredient profile will tell you why it is superior to other whey proteins. But it is also the most expensive whey I have ever purchased in terms of price per serving or cost per serving. I bought this basically because a friend vouched for it and was very confident about the effectiveness of the product.

There are recovery ingredients like glutamine, taurine and creatine monohydrate that make this an ideal supplement for post workout recovery. You can take it at other times of the day as well but I used it for post-workout only in water.

It costs around $40 for 24 servings so it is quite expensive in my opinion. It contains 2.5 grams of creatine, 1 gram of glutamine and 500 mg of taurine in every serving. There is 30 grams of protein in approx 42 grams of serving. It is not whey protein concentrate but a blend whey protein isolates, hydrolysates and concentrate plus egg white. Additionally there are glutamine peptides and isolated casein peptides.

Taste etc

I didn’t like the taste – it was more like a bland or really mild chocolate. You can feel the creatine crystals with the last sips as it possibly settles down in the shaker. You need to mix it well to fully dissolve the creatine in it.

Otherwise Max Protein has excellent mixability. Not even a single lump forms if you use it in water. I didn’t take it with milk so I can’t comment on that. But there are no complaints if you are planning to use it in water immediately after your workout.

I never felt a bloat or any flatulence while using this protein. The digestibility is good and this implies that there aren’t any fillers added to this whey, and I believe this can be used while you are on a cutting cycle as well because it contains just 3.5 grams of carbs per serving.

As I said before, it is quite pricey though. I can get more than 3 lbs whey for the same price, or possibly even 5 lbs in a good sale. I wish Universal could supply it in larger packaging at a lower cost.

Does It Work?

The best thing of course with Max Protein is the effectiveness. My lifts improved while I was using it – bench press went up by 20 pounds. And it enhanced my endurance as well.

It also helps you recover in much less time. Take it post-workout with 40 grams of glucose for an insulin spike and creatine, glutamine and taurine are good enough to help you recover from stressful workouts in the gym.

I rate it 8 out of 10 overall (a lot higher if it were cheaper), and would recommend it to others for using immediately after workouts.
